Bread From Heaven Sticker
Paradigm
Throughout all of salvation history, God shows us that He is the Great Sustainer of His people. For instance, after being delivered from slavery in Egypt, the Israelites found themselves wandering aimlessly and suffering once again in the desert, so God provided them manna from Heaven. This initial Bread from Heaven was a foreshadowing of the New Covenant that would be established by Jesus Christ through the Eucharist and His subsequent sacrifice on the cross. As Catholics, we celebrate the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament as a way to encounter and adore Jesus physically. During Benediction, the priest calls out, “You have given them Bread from Heaven” and the faithful respond, “Having all sweetness within it” (an allusion to Wisdom 16:20). This is a reminder of not only the total sustenance the Eucharist provides, but also the complete sweetness of it – the Eucharist is the culmination of the absolute generosity of God towards His people: it is all-containing, meeting every need, having all sweetness. It is Christ Himself.
