At the Annunciation, when the Angel Gabriel came to Mary and told her she would bear the Son of God, she responded, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it done be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). In the latin translation, this phrase reads:

“Fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum.”

A gift of total faith. Her profound and complete yes changed all that was to come and lifted up a struggling and weary world out of darkness. A simple fiat and Love became flesh. May we seek to always emulate Mary's yes in our own lives, never ceasing to turn towards the light and be ever-ready to be His vessel for bringing it forth to others. FIAT.
